Everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their goals. Open Ascents offers mentoring programs for trainees preparing for RCI, ML, WML, and MCI assessments.

John is a recognized mentor for the MTA and holds the WMCI certification. As a course director for the Summer ML, he is dedicated to developing talent and supporting the growth of aspiring outdoor instructors.

How it works?​​

Our mentorship programs are open to RCI, ML, WML & MCI trainees who wish to built strong professional relationships, receiving personalized guidance to help individuals develop their skills, confidence, and leadership abilities. It fosters a growth mindset, ensuring that trainees continuously learn, adapt, and excel in your roles. Our Mentor plans are focused to just 4 places per year across all the awards meaning your relationship can be as focused as you need.

Our plans have been designed to be as simple as possible and allow as much flexibility as possible within the relationship. All our shadowing opportunities will be as hands on as possible, with your mentor being fully commited to your goals.

​

This mentorship program is more than just training, it is about building strong professional relationships, learning from experience, and developing the next generation of outdoor leaders.

Ongoing Support & Open Communication – Coaching is built on strong relationships. I am always available for guidance, insights, and those all-important questions, whether it is a quick call or in-depth advice.

 

Structured Feedback & Reflection – Every six months, we engage in formal coaching sessions to assess progress, reflect on growth, and refine strategies for continued improvement.

 

Unlimited Shadowing Opportunities – Learning by observation is invaluable. If I am out on the hill or at the crag, mentees are always welcome to join, watch, and learn in real-world settings.

 

Personalized Strength & Weakness Analysis – Together, we identify key areas for development, set SMART goals, and create a clear, actionable plan tailored to individual growth.

 

Dedicated Practical Coaching Days – Twice a year, we spend two focused days in the mountains, working directly on personal objectives and fine-tuning skills through hands-on coaching.

This mentorship program is more than just training it is about building strong professional relationships, learning from experience, and developing the next generation of outdoor leaders.

Pricing

Our packaged are designed to be simple "All In" packages for a 12 month period 

​

Your first initial contact and phone call consultation to see if it works for you is 100% free.

​

SPA, ML - £500 per year

WML, MCI - £550 per year

​

If you have been paired with us via MTA directly through their own mentor program than there is no fee
